About the project

Maine is more than a place.  It’s a choice.

Everyone here has a story, and many who call the Pine Tree State home are transplants from the farthest corners of the US and beyond.  From York to Fort Kent, from Portland to Fryeberg and everywhere in between, Maine’s unique blend of independence and resourcefulness and just plain toughness provide fertile ground for creatives, entrepreneurs, social activists, visionaries and craftspeople to prosper.  In so doing they transform the very state in which we live, work and play.

Inspire Maine attempts to shine a light on  some of the many great people who continue to impact our communities inside Maine and beyond.   In 2011 the project began as a year-long biweekly series on inspiring Portlanders.  It has since grown to encompass all of Maine.   Every issue will feature a new person or persons who we think you should get to know.  These are the dreamers and the doers that together, make Maine.
